Adidas_1 DLX Runner updated, less fugly

Adidas has decided to expand its line of "smart" shoes with the Adidas_1 DLX Runners. Even though these shiny new versions might look and perform better than the first iteration, they still won't tear us away from our desks -- of course, exercise isn't exactly our bag (unless you count typing as a work out). Regardless of how horrid they appeared, we must admit that the originals performed as advertised, using an embedded microprocessor, motor, and sensor to automatically adjust cushioning to the ideal level by sensing shifts in pace and movement. The new DLX Runners sport a lighter motor mechanism and customize to each individual's needs more effectively by recognizing running style and remembering personal requirements. Most importantly, they actually look like normal shoes and less like miniature spaceships.

More commission cuts likely

Comment: ANZ's discussion document proposing to cut upfront commissions paid to mortgage brokers won't be the last.

Most of the banks will move to cut commissions to improve their margins. Word has it that National Bank will do something, maybe as early as next week, and Westpac isn't far away suggesting a similar move, but perhaps a bigger cut. The unknown is what ASB Bank is thinking.

Added to this it seems the aggression in the BNZ Unbeatable campaign has been removed and replaced by TotalMoney.

Likewise it would be no surprise to see BNZ re-enter the broker market. Again word has it that such a move maybe a little closer than many expect.

A view expressed previously is that with a change in leadership at the bank there will also be a change in strategy.

Carmen Electra Plays Candy Fiveways Like A Porn Pro

Carmen Electra didn't have to watch any adult movies to research her porn star role in new movie 'I Want Candy' - because she has seen enough already!

The sexy star plays a top adult movie actress, called Candy Fiveways, in the new British comedy. It tells the story of two wannabe porn directors - and Electra had no problem relating to the role because she is already a porn connoisseur.

Speaking at the London premiere of the film last night (20.03.07), Carmen told BANG Showbiz: "I didn't really need to do any research for the part, like watch lots of porn films. I've already seen enough!"

Small Cars In Hot Demand

Demand for small cars has seen their values increase by 30 per cent in the last year according to used car sales statistics released today by Turners Auctions.

In the under 1300cc category there has been an average price increase of 30 per cent in 2006 based on actual Turners sales figures.

Turners General Manager, Marketing Todd Hunter says demand for small cars has been driven by the high fuel prices in the first half of 2006 and a growing environmental conscience among New Zealand motorists.

“The larger engine cars have seen a significant reduction in the average value which can be attributed to both fluctuating oil prices and a desire to reduce vehicle CO2 emissions,” said Mr Hunter.

The Subaru Legacy is New Zealand’s top selling second-hand vehicle but Toyota remains our favourite make of car, according to Turners Auctions which accounts for eight per cent of the total used car market in New Zealand.

Metal Mania 3 - "Stripped On The Strip Hollywood Concert (With ...

Basically, this was a release party for Volume 3 of the VH1 Metal Mania 3 CD (which was also included in our ticket price). Not a bad disc if you enjoy these bands and how their songs come off acoustically.

I Arrived about 8:45, just in time to catch the last two songs from Jani Lane, former singer of Warrant. Despite all Id read about Jani on the Metal Sludge website, Jani appeared coherent and in pretty good shape. His voice sounded just fine too. Unfortunately, I did not recognize either of his last two songs, although they both went over with the crowd pretty well.

Next up was Don Dokken...by himself, with just an acoustic guitar, a lit cigarette and a glass of Jack Daniels. Don mentioned that he contacted Mick Brown about the show, but ultimately decided just to do it himself, without any other band members.

Zipcar plans to accelerate expansion

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — After nearly seven years of getting strangers to rent cars for a few hours at a time, Zipcar Inc. said it believes it has the know-how to leap beyond its customer base of tech-savvy 20- and 30-somethings in big U.S. cities.

The car-sharing service announced Tuesday that it's revamping its reservation and fleet management systems — moves Zipcar is taking to support expansion into Europe and other new markets beyond the 13 states and Canadian provinces where it now operates.

Infringement action to be taken over used car tax

Brussels is expected to initiate infringement procedures against Malta over its discriminatory registration tax on used cars, MaltaToday can reveal.
Malta’s higher registration tax on second-hand cars is currently being investigated by the European Commission’s directorate for taxation and customs, and is likely to culminate in the first stage of infringement procedures to be launched against Malta this month.
In response to a complaint from a Maltese citizen, an official from the Commission’s directorate said an infringement of EU law could arise if the tax on second-hand imports was higher than that imposed on new car imports.
Head of unit Micole Wiebke said an investigation is under way into the reduction of registration tax in order to comply with EU law, which prohibits member states from imposing any tax on EU products in excess of that imposed on similar domestic products, or so as to afford indirect protection to other products.

Home Equity: The Party May Be Over For Consumers

Will the housing collapse deal a major blow to consumer spending? The moment of truth is fast approaching. Weak home sales, stagnating or falling house prices, and tighter lending standards are limiting the amount of cash households can obtain by tapping into their home equity. Some economists believe this cash strongly supported spending in recent years. .

The interest of private equity investors has transformed from just watching prices for real estate grow to making considerable investments in this market. Today private equity funds are actively investing in real estate projects: hotels, golf courses, warehouse facilities, shopping centers and more.

GEICO to add 100 employees

The fourth largest private auto insurer in the country plans to add 100 more employees to its Coralville location, the manager said Thursday.

Dina Pon, manager of GEICO insurance in Coralville, said the extra jobs will be for entry-level sales and service jobs. GEICO already employs 300 in Coralville.

"We're growing our service operation," Pon said. "Essentially, we have a need for service professionals."

Pon said the location hired 88 people last year and was chosen by the company to grow because of "better-than-average" sales and service results.

Pon said recruitment efforts have started with GEICO representatives attending career fairs at the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa.

The location wants people with good attitudes, weekend availability and flexibility, Pon said.

NT$ falls to 1-month low on outflow

Taiwan's dollar yesterday weakened to a one-month low on concern overseas investors will cut holdings of stocks and traders will borrow the currency to invest in higher-yielding assets.

Fund managers outside of Taiwan sold more equities than they bought for nine straight days, the longest period since May 26, according to stock exchange data. The local dollar also extended last week's 0.3 percent slide on speculation investors will use the Taiwan dollar as a funding currency for so-called carry trades.

"Persistent outflows are going to be a factor for the currency," said Steven Chang, global markets vice president in Hong Kong at State Street Bank & Trust Co. "Investors will also resume the carry and that's a negative for the Taiwan dollar currency too."

The Taiwan dollar dropped 0.2 percent to NT$33.029 at 4 p.m.

As Bonds chases record, two manufacturers hope he'll be swinging ...

TEMPE, Ariz. - Barry Bonds isn't considered a darling in the world of corporate marketing, but bat manufacturers are scrambling to put their product in his hands.

Who wouldn't want to supply the bat used to break the all-time home run record?

The winner appears to be a Japanese company, SSK, which provided Bonds a dozen black-and-gold lacquered maple bats made to the slugger's exact specifications. Bonds is using the bats this spring - he just ordered 36 more - and considers them nearly identical to the Sam Bats he has faithfully swung since 1999.

"They did it perfect," said Bonds, who swung an SSK in Wednesday's exhibition against the Los Angeles Angels.

Bonds began auditioning for a new bat supplier because of an inconvenient truth.

Mother Nature, in tandem with financial issues, has put Ottawa-based Sam Bats manufacturer Sam Holman months behind in filling his 2,000 major league orders.

Insurer Rx: Kind doctors

An upstart Iowa-based medical malpractice insurer is quizzing physicians on their bedside manners in hopes that a little kindness will create a fewer legal problems for its policyholders.

When United Medical Liability Insurance Co. began business mid-2005, President and Chief Executive James Krist, 48, said that he wanted to develop a malpractice carrier that is attuned to the physicians in Iowa. He didn't want a company that was issuing policies to Iowa physicians the same way it might to caregivers in Florida or California.

"We don't think there's a lot of bad medicine in this state," Krist said. "We have good physicians. And good results."

Building an insurer from the ground up gave United Medical a fresh chance to look at the way risks might be reduced.

Basketball ShoeThe apparent confessions of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to planning the September 11 attacks were today met with shock and scepticism in almost equal measure.

The alleged No 3 in al-Qaida has long been suspected of being the mastermind behind the 2001 attacks in America but, if true, Mr Mohammed's most recent admissions would confirm his as a man the US has described as "one of history's most infamous terrorists".

Mr Mohammed was arrested in Pakistan in 2003 and spent time in secret CIA prisons before being moved with 13 others to a maximum security compound at Guantnamo Bay last year.

His list of confessions, in which he places himself at the centre of al-Qaida plots spanning a decade, are contained in the transcript of a tribunal held behind closed doors at the Cuban camp.gilbert arena basketball shoes
